Hold it loosely
As special needs parents and caregivers, we have been trained to hold on to things and plans loosely. Emergencies happen quick, illness, a phone call, an insurance cancellation, missing paperwork, or just plain sudden exhaustion and fatigue; all of these things make for disappointments and frustration. I'm teaching our kids, hold on loosely, things can change. The winds change direction, reminding me of Mary Poppins, ha ha. This idea isn't a happy or fun one, but it is forming patience, flexibility and creativity in all of us. This is a great lesson for all actually.
