Hey devil, I will tell you what you can do with your insecurity! (10 verses on conquering insecurity

It is amazing to me how emotions tend to fluctuate, in the morning we can be full of faith, ready to conquer life, yet at the end of the day feel like a war has broken out between faith and fear, confidence and insecurity.

Today was a very rough day for me mentally and emotionally. Facebook brings back this video of my son learning how to feed himself. He was only 11 at the time, so sweet, determined to get that fork to his mouth. It took 9 years to get him to that point. It also took 1 moment of negligence to steal that from him, as a year later he experiences a fall at school causing more brain injury, taking his ability to eat away, don't want to say for the rest of his life, because God has the last word in everything.

Then I am faced with a battle at the social security office, 3 hours later, no results, no solutions. I will have to go back for the 3rd time. Another battle with a credit card company in husband's name, back and forth, put on hold 100 times, had to tell them 5 times husband passed away (each time a painful tug at my heart) and still, no results, no solutions. These moments of frustration caused extreme fatigue, which in turn became an opening for the enemy to come and whisper his 2 cents about my situations past, present and future. Here comes the "what ifs", "whys", "only if you would have", "woulda, coulda, shouldas" the rest of the darn day. Now insecurity is planted, and this insecurity doesn't stay contained, it spreads like poison ivy into the rest of the areas of my life, now I am insecure about relationships, about my mothering, about my looks, all in one afternoon? You have got to be kidding me! Enough I say, Enough! I'm calling it by what it is, a direct attack from the enemy! The enemy is a liar!

Dictionary.com defines the word Insecure as: "(of a person) not confident or assured; uncertain and anxious; unsafe."

So what I see here is that insecurity and fear are siblings. I know for me personally, the feelings of insecurity get heavy when things don't go my way, when situations seem out of control. I become suspicious and begin to ask myself "ok, what else is going to go wrong, what else is going to fall apart?" I have learned to develop a tough exterior and this could cause problems. I am capable of kicking the bottom out myself because my insecurities scream "the bottom is going to fall out and your going to be hurt."

How many things have we sabotaged because of fear or insecurity? How many blessings have we missed out on because we allowed fear to smother our faith?

As a single mom and woman, it is so easy to feel engulfed by insecurity. It is so easy to just want to hide under the covers and refuse to face the world, the battles, the decisions, the potential for more heartbreak and pain.

I know the answer in my mind. I must trust God, trust Him to guide me, to be with me, to show me the way. Oh, but these emotions are strong, and they hit when I am at my weakest. Just like the time when the devil tempted Jesus, at Jesus' weakest moment. See Matthew 4:1-11. He had been fasting for 40 days. He was hungry, weak and tired; the devil didn't attack on day 1 of fast, or day 15, he waited and waited until Jesus grew weaker and weaker and then "Bam!" attacks are hurled. So I take note of how Jesus responded, at how He conquered the devil; I too, will do the same. I will respond with the Word of God, I will confidently speak what God says and thinks, not what my emotions are yelling right now.

I am sharing this because I know I am not the only one who goes through this. Fear and insecurity are strong weapons the devil uses to keep us down. To keep us from living the life God has in store. Let's fight back!

These verses are from New Living Translation Bible.

1. Philippians 4:6-9

"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you."

2. 1 John 4:18

"Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love."

3. Ephesians 6:10-18

"10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we[a] are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.[b] 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.[c] 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere."

4. 1 Corinthians 10:13

"13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure."

5. Romans 12:2

"Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."

6. John 15:7-8

"But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! 8 When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father."

7. Galatians 2:20

"My old self has been crucified with Christ.[a] It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."

8. James 5:16

"Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results."

9. Ephesians 2:10

" For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago."

10. John 8:32

"32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
