Fear and Worry go hand and hand

"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all He has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." -Philippians 4:6-7

How many of you are worriers? I am raising my hand. I think worry is a normal part of every day life especially for those of us who like order, who ...need a plan, a date, time, when, where and how. "God, can I please see your short term and long term goals for my life?" This personality trait is useful and a blessing in many ways, we need organized, focused people. However, these attitudes do tend to interfere with our level of trust in God. We need to seek balance, I am speaking to all of the choleric, type A personalities out there. We cannot allow our temperament to steal our peace and trust in God.

So worry is common and normal. The problem starts when we don't take that worry and give it to God. It is a problem when we feed into that worry and it grows into a big insatiable beast of fear, always wanting more of your mind and heart, removing all faith and trust in God.

In this verse we are called to pray and give thanks instead of worry. God is so good to us! He gives us the opportunity to trade in our worries for peace and all we have to do is pray, present our need, surrender our weaknesses, tell God what is on our mind and in our hearts and thank Him for what He has done and will do.

I am in the midst of seeking God for a miracle and it will take His hand to do this. I have tried and tried to make it happen and all it has done is bring me frustration and yes, fear. Not to mention, making a ton of mistakes.

I will not let fear and worry win! God is in control and I choose peace! God knows my heart's desires and He knows that I delight in Him and the Word says in Psalm 37:4

Of course, these desires He is talking about are desires that He places in our hearts, not fleshly, out-of-control desires.

So stop right now and think about what you're thinking about, does it leave you with peace? Or does it consume your heart with fear, anxiety, panic? Join me in surrendering our fears and worries to God, let's trade it in for His peace. I know myself and this will not be a one-time prayer, it's a muscle that needs to be exercised, the muscle of faith, surrender, trust. It must be exercised every day in order to become strong. God bless you!
