If You say so, Lord...(12 verses that speak to fear and dread in our lives)
This is what I said to the youth group this last Tuesday. In this valley, most days the only way I hold my head up is by throwing my arms up in the air and in, what I perceive as blind surrender, I say "if You say so, Lord". "If Your Word says so, and You are not a liar, then I shall keep walking this valley until I see the other side." That's all I have most days. This valley is rough and today it hurts more than yesterday. Fear, pain, loneliness, what-if's, dread and dead dreams...standing at my door, it is a good day when only one makes it through to harass me; some days they all come and I spend most of my day pushing them back out of my mind and heart, these days are long to say the least. My mind won't shut up today, so to keep busy and mind focused I write and want to find a way to encourage you as I desperately look for a way to encourage my own heart.
Today I share 12 verses I am reading to fight fear and dread. You may know someone struggling with fear and dread especially with this year coming to a close and a new year just around the corner. Maybe it's you....let's read the Word!
"Even when I walk through the dark valley of death, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me."
"The Lord is my light and my salvation-so why should I be afraid? The Lord protects me from danger-so why should I tremble?"
"He will shield you with His wings. He will shelter you with His feathers. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the dangers of the day..."
"They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them. They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly."
"Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but to trust the Lord means safety."
"Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand."
"So don't be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom."
2 Timothy 1:7
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline."
"Stay away from the love of money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, 'I will never fail you, I will never forsake you.' That is why we can say with confidence, 'the Lord is my helper, so I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?'"
1 Peter 3:14
"But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don't be afraid and don't worry."
1 John 4:18
"Such love has no fear because perfect love expels all fear..."
I encourage you to explore these verses for yourself in your own Bible to read within the context.
